Joseph Clover attended many meetings and often presented material for discussion or education. Details of some of these presentations are listed below. Some of these resulted in publications which are listed on a separate page
1864 Was present and involved in discussions at British Medical Association (BMA) meeting held in Cambridge
1868 January reported in the Lancet as having presented a nasal cap for the administration of anaesthesia for cleft palate before the Medico-Chirurgical Society. Letter from Clover re this in the Lancet in Feb 1868
1868 2nd March Read a paper before the Odontological Society of Great Britain on "The administration of chloroform in Dental Operations". Abstract printed in the British Journal of Dental Science 1868
1868 Spoke at a BMA meeting in Oxford - August. On the administration of Nitrous Oxide, published in November of that year in the British Medical Journal (BMJ)
Demonstrated the administration of nitrous oxide during the meeting at the Radcliffe Infirmary. Also at the conclusion of the papers at the meeting, administered it to Charles Fox, surgeon - following which a discussion was held.
1873 Spoke at the BMA meeting in London. The induction of sleep during surgical operations (paper published the following year in Feb 14 on similar topic is his longest)
1874 Spoke at a meeting in Norwich about a new inhaler (BMA meeting was from August 11th-14th)
1878 November. Sent a letter which was discussed at the Odontological Society meeting at 40 Leicester Sq on Monday November 4th - re request for chloroform to be banned for dental surgery (Coleman July 1878) Clover disagreed.
1879 Was present and involved in discussions at the Association of Surgeons practising dental surgery Wednesday January 22nd 1879. Made comments about nitrous oxide, oxygen, chloroform and ether.
1879 Present and involved in discussions at the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society meeting on October 28th Tuesday, 1879. Chaired by Erichsen on the treatment of persons apparently drowned
1880 Delivered a lecture at University College on Ethidene-Dichloride
1881 Presented a paper at the International Medical Congress on his downdraft inhaler. Also comments at section of surgery on his instrument for removing bladder stones.
